The Bergen Scottish Society organises a programme of events to promote and celebrate Scottish Culture. The main social events of the year are the Burn's Supper and the Spring and Autumn Ceilidhs.
Here is the Society's programme of events for the rest of 2010. We hope you like what you see! For details of events from previous years, please browse the menu on the left.
• Byvandring / Guided historic walk - Kong Oscarsgate and Kalfaret Wednesday 8th September
We're all set! The theme for this year's byvandring is Kong Oscarsgate and Karlfaret: Centre for the poor and sick in Bergen from 1600–1900
Historian Chris Harris will share his wealth of information during this 1,5-2 hour walk, starting at the main entrance of Kalfarveien 31 and ending up at Dyveke's (Hollendergate 7).
You're welcome to join us on the walk and/or the social gathering afterwards!
Rainy day alternative: Chris will tell us about Kalfarveien 31 - The Biggest Leprosy Hospital in Norway.
• Autumn Ceilidh Saturday 23rd October - Terminus Hall, Grand Hotel Terminus
The Society's largest ceilidh, this is an evening of traditional Scottish music and dancing, where participation is a must. A social highlight for many, it's just one more opportunity to see men in kilts and hear the drones of Bergen Pipes and Drums.
Ceilidhs are fun best shared, so come along with a group of friends, work colleagues etc.
• Curling Friday 19th November - Iskanten
By popular demand, this night of fun on the ice, rock-style, is back. A pair of sneakers, some warm clothing, and a sense of balance is all you'll need to bring. Oh yes, and a sense of adventure!
